Toys “R” Us Reports 2015 Holiday Sales Results

toysrusToys “R” Us Inc. today reported its same store sales for the five-week and nine-week periods ended Jan. 2, 2016. The five-week period refers to Nov. 29, 2015 to Jan. 2, 2016, and the nine-week period refers to Nov. 1, 2015 to Jan. 2, 2016. For the five-week and nine-week periods ended January 2, 2016, consolidated same store sales increased 3.7 percent and 2.0 percent, respectively. These figures exclude the impact of foreign currency translation.

For the five-week and nine-week periods ended Jan. 2, 2016 same store sales increased 2.9 percent and 1.4 percent, respectively, with particular strength in online sales. The core toy, learning and seasonal categories generated the strongest same store sales growth, partially offset by a decline in the entertainment (which includes electronics, video game hardware and software) category.

For the five-week and nine-week periods ended Jan. 2, 2016 same store sales increased 5.1 percent and 3.1 percent, respectively. Canada and Japan led the positive same store sales results, partially offset by some softness in Europe.
