TIASafetyHelmetThe Toy Industry Association (TIA) is reminding members who sell children’s products in Washington State of an upcoming reporting deadline for the state’s Children’s Safe Products Act. By March 2, these companies are required to report the presence of any of 66 listed chemicals of high concern to children that may be found in their products. The full list of chemicals at the State of Washington’s Department of Ecology website.

Companies with annual sales of more than $1 billion that manufacture Tier 2 products–which are intended to be in prolonged direct contact with children’s skin–must participate, while those with annual sales of $250 million to $1 billion that manufacture Tier 1 products–intended to go into a child’s mouth, onto a child’s body, or mouthable products for children under age 3–will also need to report.

On August 31, smaller companies that produce Tier 1 and Tier 2 products, as well as medium companies that produce Tier 3 products–items intended for direct contact with skin for less than an hour at a time–will need to report. TIA members have access to guidance for documents on reporting and deadlines.
