American Girl is utilizing the creative crowdsourcing platform Tongal, along with a nationwide casting call, to bring its BeForever historical characters to life through short films. From August 14 to August 24, girls ages 8 to 14 and their parents can visit tongal.com/americangirl2015 to register and submit audition videos.
There will be a short film centered on the American Girl 1970s doll, Julie Albright, and another about the line’s newest historical character from the 1950s, Maryellen Larkin. Girls who wish to audition can read for either the Maryellen or Julie characters, or both, from the provided scripts. The casting videos should be no longer than three minutes. For the girls deemed the best embodiments of Maryellen and Julie, they will move on to a public voting phase starting on August 31, in which fans can vote online for their favorite finalists. The two winning girls will each receive a cash prize of $10,000, as well as a trip to film the movie.
The 15-minute short films are being developed—from screenplays to casting and production—by the Tongal creative community, and will be shown on American Girl’s social channels and website. More information the official rules can be found at the Tongal American Girl BeForever 2015 site.
