Buzzfeed just inked an exclusive, first-look content deal with Frederator Network, a division of WOW! Unlimited Media, owned by Genius Brands International.

Under the new deal, Genius Brands’ Frederator Network has the first right to develop and produce long-form series based on digital properties created by the BuzzFeed Animation Lab. The right properties could eventually spawn consumer products deals extending into toys and games.

The first series being developed by Frederator is inspired by The Land of Bogs, a buddy comedy that currently boasts more than 10 million followers on social media, including 6.4 million on TikTok alone.

Frederator Studios is acting as global content sales agent, lead by Director of Development Isabel Schultz. Meanwhile, Genius Brands’ Chief Brand Officer Kerry Phelan will lead the development of a consumer products retail program in partnership with Buzzfeed.

“Our partnership with BuzzFeed offers Frederator a tremendous opportunity to expand on the creativity of its animation lab to further develop its original IP into long-form series for global audiences,” says Michael Hirsh, CEO of WOW! Unlimited Media. “BuzzFeed is considered the most watched digital publisher with billions of global content views and nearly 30 million dedicated BuzzFeed Animation Lab fans, which gives us a huge audience and ability to promote each series to a highly-engaged fan base”

Genius Brands’ Frederator is currently considering other content for long-form series development, including The Good Advice Cupcake, Weird Helga, and Chikn Nuggit.
