Herschend Entertainment Studios (HES) acquired the children’s series, Chuggington, from its UK-parent company, Ludorum. The preschool series is currently available on stations and streaming platforms in more than 178 countries. The show premiered on BBC in 2008 most recently launched on CCTV in China in 2017.
Based in the fictional town of Chuggington, the series follows three trainee trains–Wilson, Brewster, and Koko. Under the guidance of their elder “Chuggers,” the characters embark on adventures and learn lessons about teamwork, friendship, and fun.
HES will invest in new Chuggington content production in 2019 and will oversee growth of the franchise domestically and internationally, including live events, consumer products, and themed entertainment. The program joins HES’s inaugural pre-school property Splash and Bubbles, produced in partnership with The Jim Henson Company.
