Mattel’s iconic Hot Wheels brand is racing back to video game consoles for its first original title in years.
Hot Wheels Unleashed is an arcade-style racing game developed by Milestone, a global leader in racing titles, including the MotoGP and Monster Energy Supercross games. Unlike past Hot Wheels titles, Hot Wheels Unleashed puts players in the driver’s seat in a new way — as if they’re actually playing with the famous, 1:64-scale die-cast toys that kids and collectors have loved since 1968.
“Hot Wheels is all about encouraging the challenger spirit and Hot Wheels Unleashed brings that mission to life for gamers of all ages,” says Andrew Chan, head of digital gaming, Mattel. “Milestone’s expertise in racing game development has enabled us to transform the Hot Wheels brand into a compelling console and PC gaming experience for both current Hot Wheels fans and gamers who may be rediscovering the iconic brand.”
The new game includes single-player and multiplayer modes with races and stunt challenges on Hot Wheel’s iconic orange tracks. Players can customize their Hot Wheels vehicles and create their own course layouts using the included Track Builder function.
“Like many other team members who worked on the game, I’ve been playing with Hot Wheels since I was a child, and today I’m still a hungry Hot Wheels fan and collector,” says Michele Caletti, executive producer, Milestone. “This is the reason why we’re all so committed to delivering the purest and most authentic Hot Wheels gameplay experience ever in a videogame. We owe it to the Hot Wheels community and to our inner children.”
Hot Wheels Unleashed puts the pedal to the metal on PlayStation5, PlayStation4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One consoles, Nintendo Switch, and PC on Sept. 30. The game will be available in a variety of configurations around the world. Preorder bonuses include the “Beefed Up Pack,” featuring the Baja Bone Shaker and HW Armored Truck.
