Launched on Netflix last fall, Karma’s World is an animated series that tells the coming-of-age story of Karma Grant, an aspiring musical artist and rapper with big talent and big dreams. Based on the concept created by American rapper Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, each episode of the show features hip-hop music, streetwear fashion, and original choreography, with a focus on themes of self-expression, community, and leadership.

Now, 9 Story Media Group and Karma’s World Entertainment are teaming up with The Fashion Institute of Technology to give fans a chance to rock their favorite styles from the show. Eight student designers — Juliana Bui, Brianna Castillo, Jacob Desvarieux, Desiree DiCarlo, Hawwaa Ibrahim, Carly McBride, Jake Valliere, and Jada Wilkerson — were selected to create a 50-piece kids’ streetwear collection inspired by the series

The collection includes an expansive range of styles such as jumpsuits, jackets, sweat suits, dresses, swimsuits and footwear. Each piece embodies the individuality celebrated by the show. The Bushwick Puffer Jacket, for example, is a shiny nylon, faux fur coat with blue iris sleeves and a rainbow star print in the center; an item that is sure to be a stand-out piece to any outfit.

The unique partnership between industry and FIT represents a shared commitment to social inclusion within creative industries for Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) community. These FIT students demonstrated distinctive points of view and the ability to capture, through fashion, the spirit of courageous and expressive young kids like Karma who dare to dream big. Items from this collection are set to launch later this year.
