A new Dia de los Muertos-themed doll is joining the Rainbow High Celebrations Collection, which first launched in January with the Chinese New Year doll.

The doll, named Maria Garcia, is themed around the Mexican holiday that celebrates the dead. For example, the doll has calavera (skeleton) face paint, which is a reminder that the dead aren’t something to be afraid of. The doll also has references to other aspects of the holiday, including sugar skulls that are left on an ofrenda as a tribute and the mariachi bands that play during Dia de los Muertos.

“With the launch of our newest Rainbow High Celebration Collection doll, Maria Garcia, in observation of Día de Los Muertos, we are committed to ensuring that the spirit of the brand continues to reflect the very diverse world we live in today,” says MGA Entertainment Founder and CEO Isaac Larian. “Our unfaltering commitment to the themes of diversity and inclusion across design and storytelling has set Rainbow High apart from other fashion dolls on the market today.”

The doll’s packaging folds open and comes tied together with a gold ribbon and a marigold flower, which are meant to attract the souls of the dead back home. Additionally, Maria Garcia comes with several removable accessories, including earrings, headpieces, and skeleton gloves. The set also comes with a hair comb and an LED light-up display.

“Our interpretation of this holiday is embodied by our beautifully appointed Rainbow High doll, which drew inspiration from many different trends, local traditions, and designers where Día de Los Muertos is celebrated,” adds Paula Garcia, Chief Design Officer, Girls, MGA Entertainment. “We are proud to showcase a melting pot of traditions and customs that come together through fashion interpretation.”

The Rainbow High Celebrations Collection: Maria Garcia Dia de los Muertos doll is available at major retailers.
