Nintendo Unveils New Features for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

SuperSmashBrosNintendo has unleashed over 50 new features and details for its upcoming Super Smash Bros. for Wii U  game, including an eight-player mode, Nintendo 3DS features, the ability to build and share custom stages, and a soundtrack offer.

For the first time, eight players can play the game in a special mode in local multiplayer. This option is only available in the Wii U version, and lets players compete in larger stages to accommodate the amount of characters. In addition, players can also use amiibo figures to play, which can gain levels to become stronger and add equipment as they gain experience through battling. Also, fans can now build their own stages and hare them with friends and other players around the world using the touch screen of the Wii U gamepad.

Players who own the Nintendo 3DS version of the game can use the Nintendo 3DS systems to control the action on the TV screen. Custom Nintendo 3DS fighters can be imported into the Wii U game, along with their customized equipment, costumes, and hats. Also, everyone who buys both the Nintendo 3DS and the Wii U versions of Super Smash Bros. and registers both games on Club Nintendo by January 13 will receive a two-disc soundtrack of music from the games and the character Mewtwo as free downloadable content.

SuperSmashBros2The Wii U version of the game will offer new modes, such as Smash Tour, a fighting party game that looks like a board game; Special Smash Mode, customized battles with unique parameters; Coin Battles, where players compete to collect coins from other players’ Stamina Matches, which players fight until their hit points reach zero; Classic Mode, where players fight through a series of battles and advance if they survive; and Event Mode, where one or two players take on set character- and theme-based battles. This version of the game also offers more stages than any game in the series.

The game includes hundreds of music tracks, songs, and jingles that players can listen to and customize during game play. Players add songs to their library by collecting CDs that appear while smashing after completing challenges. Also, when players clear Classic or All-Star modes, they will unlock a movie featuring whichever fighter they used.

Nintendo has also responded to fans that have wanted the character Ridley to appear in Super Smash Bros. game for a while. He will appear in the Metroid series-inspired Pyrosphere stage, and will change the side he fights for depending on how much he is attacked. The Wii U version also offers 40 characters and the use of Mii characters.
