Total industry spending for video game hardware, software, and accessories from Aug. 27 to Sept. 30 2017 increased 39 percent to $1.2 billion compared to last year, according to analysis from The NPD Group.

Video games hardware sales compared to the same period last year increased 34 percent from $235 million last year to $1316 million this year; video games software increased 52 percent from $447 million last year to $726 million this year; and video games accessories increased 9 percent from $138 million last year to $150 million this year.

“Hardware spending in September 2017 grew 34 percent versus year ago to $316 million. Spending growth was driven by Nintendo Switch, SNES Classic, and the Sony PlayStation 4,” according to Mat Piscatella, NPD’s video game analyst.

The top 10 games for the period based on dollar sales in August across all platforms are Destiny 2, NBS 2k18, Madden NFL 18, FIFA 18, Mario & Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, Grand Theft Auto V, NHL 18, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege, and Mario Kart 8.
