Kidz Bop Announces Grand Prize Winner of Annual Kidz Star USA Talent Search

Kidz Bop has announced that 15-year-old Dallas Wayde is the grand prize winner of its annual Kidz Star USA Talent Search, America’s biggest national talent competition for kids ages 15 and under. As part of the grand prize, the Dallas native won a recording contract from RCA Records. The KIDZ Star USA Grand Finale event showcasing Dallas’s big win premieres across VEVO. Tenth Chicago Toy & Game Fair Sets Attendance Records

The 10th anniversary Chicago Toy & Game Fair continued its tradition as the nation’s largest public play event, attracting more than 25,000 people to Navy Pier on the weekend before Thanksgiving. The Fair was the finale of Chicago Toy & Game Week, which featured industry seminars, a highly celebrated inventor awards gala, and a new toy-inspired fashion show, playCHIC. In addition to increased traditional media, the fair’s highly anticipated Media/Blogger Preview Event saw record numbers, with more than 600 attendees exploring the show floor in search of their favorite toys and games to share with their readers, fans, and followers. Social media purveyors of play posted their way through the fair on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and You Tube, resulting in #ChitagFair as a trending topic on Twitter during the two-day Fair. Holiday Shoppers Believe Black Friday Holds Best Deals, According to PriceGrabber Survey

PriceGrabber has released results from its third winter holiday shopping survey, revealing that 71 percent of consumers believe that retailers offer better deals during Thanksgiving weekend than they do during the rest of the winter holiday shopping season, up from 58 percent last year. Conducted from October 1 to October 24, the survey includes responses from 4,958 U.S. online shopping consumers. When consumers who indicated that the best deals can be found over the Thanksgiving weekend were asked which days retailers offer the best prices (respondents could select as many choices as they liked), 71 percent said Black Friday (November 23), down from 80 percent last year and 86 percent in 2010, and 41 percent said Cyber Monday (November 26), up from 37 percent last year and 33 percent in 2010. Valpak Announces Results of 2012 Holiday Spending Survey

With the holiday season quickly approaching, consumers are holding onto their budgets tightly, according to Valpak’s Semi-Annual Consumer Spending Report. The report revealed 20 percent of consumers are spending less this year than last and are becoming more creative when it comes to finding deals. Valpak, the 44-year direct and digital savings leader, conducted the report in an effort to understand how consumer spending has evolved since last year’s “post-recession” economy.  Shoppers are planning to start their holiday spending earlier this year with 40 percent of consumers beginning their shopping before, and during, the month of October, including searching throughout the year. Eighty four percent of shoppers will spend the same or less on holiday-related purchases, with more than half (53 percent) planning to use coupons for gifts, entertaining, travel, and food/catering. Among the findings several notable trends in spending, coupon usage and purchase intentions were revealed: Checking the Budget Twice: According to the survey, shoppers are concentrating on sticking to their budget, with nearly half (46 percent) of respondents spending less than $500 this year on gifts. New PriceGrabber Survey Serves Up Holiday Shopper Stats

PriceGrabber has released additional results of its first winter holiday shopping survey, revealing that 54 percent of consumers plan to spend $500 or more on gifts this season, slightly higher than last year. Conducted from August 31 to September 12, the survey includes responses from 2,235 U.S. online shopping consumers. Click either photo below to view the full-size infographic. Online retailers and discount stores score big with consumers When respondents were asked to select all of the types of stores where they plan to shop for holiday gifts, 75 percent selected online retailers. Discount stores came in a close second place with 74 percent, and traditional department stores came in third place with 49 percent. Local independent retailers received 41 percent of the vote, 36 percent indicated electronic stores, 24 percent selected clothing stores, and 9 percent indicated they plan to shop at luxury department stores this holiday season. Winning Moves Donates Games for ‘Likes’ and Followers

Earlier this fall, Winning Moves Games committed to donate two new games to Kids Wish Network for every 10 Facebook “likes” and Twitter followers through Thanksgiving. Report: More Shoppers, More Money Spent this Black Friday Weekend

According to a National Retail Federation (NRF) survey conducted over the weekend by BIGresearch, 212 million shoppers visited stores and websites during the Black Friday weekend, an increase from 195 million shoppers reported last year. The NRF also reports that consumers spent more during the weekend, spending an average of $365.34 per shopper, up from last year’s $343.31. Total spending for the weekend is estimated to be $45 billion. More Black Friday shoppers hit stores in the early hours of the morning; nearly one-fourth of the day’s shoppers (24 percent) were in stores by 4 a.m. and 9.5 percent of Black Friday shoppers began their shopping at midnight, triple the number in 2009 (3.3 percent). Additionally, the number of Thanksgiving Day shoppers has doubled over the past five years, from 10.3 million in 2005 to 22.3 million in 2010. Online shopping jumped from 28.4 percent last year to 33.6 percent this year. Photos: Fifth Wimpy Kid Book Launches with Parking Lot Party

On November 9, BookPeople book store, located in Austin, Tex., hosted the official launch party for Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Ugly Truth, the fifth installment in the book series. The Diary of a Wimpy Kid “Parking Lot Party” attracted more than 1,600 people, including the books’ author and illustrator Jeff Kinney and Wimpy Kid actors Zachary Gordon and Robert Capron. Among the free family-friendly activities was a life-size version of Pressman Toy’s Diary of a Wimpy Kid Cheese Touch Board Game, co-created by Kinney. In the board game, kids laugh and talk as they face creative, social, and intellectual challenges. The player who successfully gets inside everyone else’s heads wins, but wrong answers could get players stuck with the moldy cheese that was found on the basketball court. The first of two Diary of a Wimpy Kid movies, by 20th Century Fox, was released earlier this year with a second due out next spring.
