Red Kite Animation and Once Were Farmers, two Scottish production companies, are joining forces to create a new, combined studio called Wild Child Animation.

The 50/50 complementary joint venture will be based in Scotland and will focus on providing content and animation services for both the UK domestic and international marketplaces.

Sueann Rochester will be managing director and Ken Anderson will be the director of exploration and discovery at Wild Child Animation, both previously from Red Kite. Will Adams and Rory Lowe will both be creative directors at Wild Child Animation, both previously from Once Were Farmers. Ron Henry will join the new company as director of operations and Michael McKiernan will join as the finance director.

“Having worked together co-developing previous projects, we realized that the combination of Once Were Famers’ creative skills and Red Kite’s production expertise was a natural fit. Our complementary skill sets will accelerate our expansion and increase our impact at an international level,” says Rochester.

Both Red Kite Animation and Once Were Farmers are multi-award winning production companies with years of experience in the production industry. Red Kite launched in 1997 and has since created numerous short films, children’s series, and animated series, which have aired on BBC, France Televisions, ZDF, Canal+, ABC, Disney XD, Teletoon, The Hub, Channel 9 Australia, and Cartoon Network. The BAFTA-winning studio Once Were Farmers was founded in 2002 and has since developed and produced animation and live-action content for film and broadcast, with expertise in mixing media and efficiently delivering high production value.
