ghost squad

Scholastic Entertainment will adapt the fantasy novel Ghost Squad into a live-action hybrid feature film alongside co-producing partners Josephson Entertainment and ‘Twas Entertainment. Oscar-winning filmmaker Brenda Chapman (Brave, Prince of Egypt, and The Lion King) will serve as writer and director for the project. Ghost Squad is a supernatural novel by Claribel Ortega that melds Coco-inspired family dynamics with a Ghostbusters-level of adventure.

“I am thrilled to work with Scholastic, Josephson Entertainment, and ’Twas Entertainment to bring to life the fantastical world created by Claribel Ortega,” Chapman said in a statement. “Her dynamic characters and the setting of St. Augustine make adapting Ghost Squad a unique and wonderful opportunity.”

The chapter book follows Lucely and her best friend Syd as they cast a spell that accidentally awakens malicious spirits wreaking havoc throughout the town of St. Augustine. The pals team up with Syd’s witch grandmother, Babette, and her tabby cat, Chunk, to fight the haunting forces and get rid of the town’s curse.
