Despite the everyday distractions of technology, classic play isn’t going anywhere — and Shaquille O’Neal is going to make sure of that.

In Basic Fun!’s new Tonka commercial, Shaq hits the sandbox and gets nostalgic about how kids used to play more outside. A kid-sized Shaq thinks back on his childhood days getting creative and “Tonka tough” on the playground with his classic toy trucks.

This doesn’t have to be a thing of the past though as Basic Fun! releases a fall collection of Tonka trucks in a variety of sizes and prices. “We want kids to take a break from their devices and get back to playing with real toys. We want to help kids be kids again,” Shaq said in a press release. “I’ve been a Tonka guy since ’76, and they’ve always been tough, durable, and fun.”

Shaq will continue to be the face of Tonka with even more”Let’s Go Play!” campaign messages, such as the Shaq-A-Claus Christmas program this winter. As part of the annual program, Basic Fun! will contribute a “truckload” of Tonka vehicles and other classic toys to underprivileged kids in the U.S. this holiday season.
