Survey Says Parents in the South Play More with Their Kids

Kids living in the South get more playtime with their parents than kids living in any other region of the country, according to new research commissioned by the Toy Industry Association’s Genius of Play initiative.

PlayScience conducted the survey asking parents of kids between the ages of 2 and 10 years old how often they play together as a family. Seventy-six percent of parents in the South said they play with their kids at least once a day, compared to 46 percent in the West, 40 percent in the Midwest, and 38 percent in the Northeast.

Parents can visit www.thegeniusofplay.org for play ideas and tips, expert advice, and other resources about play. Families are also encouraged to take the Play Pledge and commit to giving their kids more opportunities to play. To date, families around the country have pledged more than 5 million play hours. To celebrate this milestone, TIA has donated $10,000 in brand-new toys to children in need.
