The Toy Association Releases Tips on Fidget Spinner Safety

toy association logoWith the popularity of fidget spinners on the rise, The Toy Association released safety tips to ensure parents and their kids know how to safely play with these toys.

The first tip is to follow the age labels to avoid purchasing spinners that don’t have age guidelines. Kids who still put toys in their mouths, especially those who are younger than 3 years old, should not play with fidget spinners because of their small parts.

The Toy Association also advises that parents shop at reputable retailers they know and trust because those retailers sell already tested products that comply with U.S. safety standards. Street vendors and pop-up shops should be avoided because the safety of those products cannot be guaranteed.

Extra precaution is needed for light-up spinners because they could use small batteries that would be dangerous to ingest. When purchasing a light-up spinner, make sure there is some form of a locking mechanism on the battery compartment.

Like with any toy, fidget spinners should be check periodically for any broken parts or damage. Broken items should be removed from a child’s environment.

Other safety tips for parents and families are included at PlaySafe.org.
