Toy Halls of Fame Exhibit to Be Unveiled at The Strong Museum

Toy Halls of FameOn September 17, The Strong museum will unveil a state-of-the-art exhibit, the Toy Halls of Fame. The exhibit, estimated at a cost of $4 million, will house The Strong’s National Toy Hall of Fame alongside the Toy Industry Association’s (TIA) Toy Industry Hall of Fame.

The Strong’s National Toy Hall of Fame celebrates classic toys, while the TIA Toy Industry Hall of Fame recognizes the outstanding individuals who design, make, and sell them. The Toy Halls of Fame exhibit will include five themed areas—imagine, create, build, move, and compete—in which guests can learn about different toys.

There will also be a staircase leading past a gallery of animated portraits of classic toys, as well as a space consisting of more than 5,000 square feet of interactive playthings, including a 20-foot virtual bubble machine, a giant kinetic sculpture made of building blocks, and more.

The Toy Halls of Fame exhibit is produced by The Strong in cooperation with the TIA. The project is supported by New York State’s Empire State Development and the I ♥ NY Division of Tourism under Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Regional Economic Development Council Initiative, with additional grant funding provided by the National Endowment for the Humanities.

The unveiling will be followed by an invitation-only dinner honoring the luminaries and celebrating TIA’s 100th anniversary, scheduled for the evening of September 17. A weekend-long public celebration will be held on September 19 and 20.
