Toys “R” Us Canada president Melanie Teed-Murch has resigned, as first reported by The Canadian Press.
Teed-Murch spent 23 years with the retailer, starting as a store manager at the Kitchener, Ontario location in 1996. Appointed president of Toys “R” Us Canada in 2016, Teed-Murch notably led the company through tumultuous times, during which the company was divested from its bankrupt U.S. parent and sold to Fairfax Holdings Ltd. to become a 100% Canadian owned and operated business. Last summer, following the closure of Toys “R” Us in the U.S., Teed-Murch declared Toys “R” Us Canada “here to play, here to stay!” as the company worked to rebuild customer perception for its Toys “R” Us and Babies “R” Us brands.
The Toy Book reached out to Toys “R” Us Canada for comment, confirming that Teed-Murch “tendered her resignation to accept a new opportunity not yet disclosed,” according to a company spokeswoman.
This summer, the company entered into a partnership with the Toronto Blue Jays to connect with families across the country. “We’re on a mission to help Canadians rediscover the magic and power of play,” Teed-Murch said at the time.
