COMMENTARY: Plush Manufacturers Show Off Awesome New Plush at Toy Fair

Toy Fair 14 was a spectacular, four-day event held at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City from February 16 to 19. Manufacturers from across the country gathered to debut new items, display classics, and make connections with retailers, buyers, and the press. We here at The Toy Book took the opportunity to forge new professional relationships, engage companies with whom we have established relationships, and discover new companies. As I walked the floors checking out the plush items, I saw dozens of great designs that I loved. Big, small, fat, tall—you name it, it was at Toy Fair. Some plush is cute, some is realistic, some is abstract, some is sculptural. While I appreciate all plush, there were some pieces in particular that really caught my eye.

toothpickToothpick, from GUND, was my hands-down, No. 1, absolute favorite plush at the show. I was already “aww!”-ing at the other bears on the wall in the GUND booth when my eyes landed on Toothpick’s skinny little body with his big, cute head and brown corduroy nose. His body is surprisingly sturdy, letting him sit up easily, but is still soft and cuddly. The material that GUND used for Toothpick’s fur is also super-soft, and has an almost curly sort of look to it. He is just adorable. [Read more...]

Pebble Handmade Toys Now Available in the U.S.

Feb3.PebblePebbles’ line of plush toys is available for purchase in the U.S. for the first time since the brand launched. The line of handmade products are knitted and crocheted toys made for a safe and tactile experience for babies and young children. The products are now available in specialty and gift toy stores nationwide.

The line includes a variety of soft toys and organic rattles. The Organic Bear Rattles, which are new for this year, are crocheted and feature a looped handle for easy grasping, a soft rattle sound, and designed for teething and fine motor development. The Organic Giraffe Rattles, also new for this year, are larger toys that have a gentle rattle sound. The Rainbow Bunny Rattle and Large Donkey are large plush animals recommended for young children.

2 blue ducks Introduces Two New Product Lines

Jan8.2blueducks2 blue ducks will introduce two new lines of environmentally friendly products that will launch later this month at the Toronto Gift Fair. The first is a line of plush toys, from Greenpoint Brands, that are chemical-free, made of organic cotton, and packaged in reusable gift boxes. Greenpoint Brands followed increased safety and health standards to create the new toys, as well as reducing the environmental impact in production.

Milestone Baby Cards will also be featured at the gift fair, which are designed to celebrate major moments throughout a child’s first year. The development cards will feature creative photographs. The cards, box, and displays are printed on FSC-certified paper with 70 percent vegetable oil ink.

 

 

 

Disney Releases New Frozen Product Collection

FrozenproductsTo commemorate the release of Walt Disney Animation Studios‘ film Frozen, Disney Consumer Products (DCP) will release a diverse new product collection of role-play items, plush stuffed animals, dolls, and more. These products are available now from Mattel, Just Play, and other licensees at mass retailers nationwide, as well as at Disney Store and DisneyStore.com.

Disney’s Frozen chronicles the epic quest of fearless Anna to find her sister Elsa, whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter. Highlights from Disney’s Frozen product line include:

  • Disney Frozen Musical Magic Elsa and Anna Dolls, from Mattel: When kids hold their hands—or when they hold each other’s hands—the dolls magically light up and play enchanting music.
  • Disney Frozen Pull Apart and Talkin’ Olaf, from Just Play: Olaf’s nose, head, and torso all temporarily separate and then safely rejoin, recreating memorable moments from the film. Plush Olaf also says funny phrases from the movie.
  • Frozen Rolling Travel Trunk, from Jakks Pacific: Kids can dress up like Anna and Elsa with two beautiful dresses and tons of accessories, then pack everything up and roll the trunk to their next destination.
  • Frozen Storybook Deluxe, from Disney Publishing: In Disney Publishing’s digital Storybook Deluxe app, Elsa and Anna retell the animated feature Frozen from two points of view.
  • Frozen: A Sister More Like Me by Disney Publishing: A jacketed picture book featuring an original story about Anna and Elsa, as well as illustrations by one of the artists who worked on the film.
  • Frozen Big Golden Book by Random House: An illustrated hardcover Big Golden Book based on the film, suitable for kids ages 3 to 7.

Baby Aspen Launches New Line of Clothing, Accessories

Baby Aspen, a manufacturer of boutique baby gifts, has a new line of baby clothing and accessories that will begin showcasing late this summer.

The collection pictured features a firefighter layette complete with black suspenders, yellow boots, and a firefighter hat.  The Sock Safari set features four pairs of animal printed socks.

The collection also includes bloomers, a terry robe, and plush stuffed animals.
