After almost three years on the market, independent toy company Cepia is taking its hot property Cats vs Pickles and turning it into a card game.
This time, instead of simply releasing the item to market, Cepia turned to Kickstarter to launch Cats vs Pickles: Mayhem, a game of cats, chaos, and crazy pickles. The premise is as simple as the backstory behind the characters. Players draw a card, which dictates how they toss a plush onto the cloth playing field to score points. If the cat misses its mark, players draw a chaos card, unleashing various types of mayhem depending on what’s written on the card.
The game is intended for ages 8 and up, requires two to eight players, and has an estimated play time of 20 to 30 minutes. Expansion packs are already planned and available through the campaign, including Nature Danger and Pickle Panic. The base game comes with exclusive cat and pickle plushes (Jacky and Punky, respectively) and the campaign itself comes with exclusives (Mr Money Bags and Hungry Harold), not even counting the exclusives included with the expansion packs (Safari Danger and Eep Opp).
With a huge presence on social media and an extremely loyal fan base, it’s no surprise Cepia’s initial goal of $10,000 was fully funded within about 20 minutes of its launch and continues to keep climbing. Different pledge amounts come with different levels of rewards, the Maximum Mayhem pledge package of $160 or more including Kickstarter version of the base game, both expansions, a double-sided neoprene mat, three key ring blind bags, a sticker pack, two art prints, and four 4-packs of plush.
The campaign runs until Nov. 8, with an estimated delivery date of March 2023 for all rewards. There’s no set limit of backers per pledge package.
