Mario toys are nothing new, as the Nintendo property has been a success since its inception. But the video game icon is now making it to the big screen (this time not in live action) and with the release of The Super Mario Bros. Movie quickly approaching this April, new toy releases are on the way.
JAKKS Pacific will be capitalizing on this with a toy line for the new movie. The company has plans for figures, accessories, playsets, plush, and even an R/C vehicle, all set to hit retail next month.
“JAKKS Pacific has been excited about working with Illumination, Nintendo, and Universal Products & Experiences to develop a line of unique toys for The Super Mario Bros. Movie available on Feb 26, 2023,” says Craig Drobis, Senior Vice President of Marketing at JAKKS Pacific, Inc. “Our collector and fan community will be excited with new scales that really bring home the rich details inspired by the characters and sets on the big screen, including our new 5-inch figures with realistic acrylic eyes and movie accessories in a premium window box. We’re excited to unveil even more very soon.”
The new movie will be hitting theaters on April 7. The film is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic and features a number of celebrity cast members such as Chris Pratt as Mario, Anna Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong. The movie marks a continued new trend for Nintendo in expanding its properties to other media.
“In partnership with Illumination and Nintendo, we have enjoyed collaborating with JAKKS Pacific to launch an all-new line of toys for The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” says Joe Lawandus, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Global Toys, Hardlines & Publishing, Universal Products & Experiences. “We’re as excited as the fans for the film’s release and can’t wait for their reaction to our line of film-inspired toys.”
JAKKS Pacific currently offers a variety of Nintendo-inspired toys from Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, and more.
