The LEGO Group is releasing a 2,336-piece Icons Classic Land Rover Defender 90 set to commemorate the car’s 75th anniversary. The toy company marked the occasion by placing a yellow Land Rover Defender atop the Scottish Highlands, naming it the, “The Hardest To Reach LEGO Store in the World.” A short film was produced by The LEGO Group in which two adventurers raced to make it to the Land Rover and build the LEGO Land Rover set: the first Saudi women to climb Mount Everest, Raha Moharrak and Scottish extreme locations expert, Aldo Kane.
“I was so excited when The LEGO Group asked me to be part of this campaign. I build at least one LEGO set each month so working with the two brands together has been an epic adventure,” Moharrak says. “From getting to race across the Scottish Highlands in a classic Defender to trying to be the first to reach the hardest to reach LEGO store in the world and being one of the first to play with the new set, it really was a dream come true.”
Available April 1, the LEGO Icons Classic Land Rover Defender 90 set offers a handful of features akin to the real Land Rover Defender, such as a roof rack, engine snorkel, offroad front bumper, a working winch, side rails, toolbox, a fire extinguisher, and traction plates.
“Bringing the iconic Classic Land Rover Defender to brick life was no easy challenge. This prestigious car can take you anywhere, so during the design process we wanted to infuse the LEGO set with that sense of adventure,” says LEGO Design Master, Kurt Kristiansen. “We can’t wait to see fans’ reactions.”
The set will be available through LEGO Store and specialty retailers.
