Mattel’s next flick is taking the toy company from the Dreamhouse to the matchbox.

According to a report from Deadline (which has since been confirmed by Mattel), Sam Hargrave, the director of the first two installments of the Extraction film franchise at Netflix, has been named as the director for the upcoming Matchbox movie from Skydance and Mattel Films

The film will be based on the script from David Coggeshall (Orphan: First Kill) and Jonathan Tropper (The Adam Project). Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger will produce with Robbie Brenner for Mattel Films.

The Matchbox-inspired movie first went into development in July 2022, when Mattel Films and Skydance inked an agreement to produce the film together

Mattel also has several other feature films based on IP in development, including American Girl, Barney, Hot Wheels, Bob the Builder, Magic 8 Ball, Major Matt Mason, Masters of the Universe, Polly Pocket, Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots, Thomas & Friends, UNO, View-Master, and Wishbone.
