Australian company Moose Toys has released a commitment to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040.
Sustainability is a big topic in every field, the toys and games industry being no exception. As environmentalism becomes more important to consumers, it becomes more critical for companies to declare their commitment to the cause.
Moose Toys has set both short and long-term goals regarding emission reduction targets. The company plans to be verified by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) within the next two years.
“At Moose, we’re setting an ambitious agenda to become the most responsible and sustainable toy company we can be,” says Paul Solomon, Moose Toys CEO. “We acknowledge how critical this commitment is in protecting our planet and ensuring we can continue to make kids around the world ‘Superhappy’ now and into the future.”
Solomon signed the SBTi commitment letter, which has Moose joining a number of other companies setting emission targets. Moose has a number of plans to support the initiative such as changing packaging, reducing air freight, and embracing renewable energy within factories.
“This journey will not only require conviction and collaboration, but also innovation,” says Chloe Davison, Director of Sustainability at Moose. “We’re confident we have the passion and creativity to meet this challenge. It’s critical that our pathway to Net-Zero is aligned with the latest climate science so that we can play our part in helping to protect people and the planet from the worst effects of climate change.”
Time will tell how well Moose Toys manages to reach the goals it sets for each stage of emission reduction. The company is at least clearly declaring these goals, and joining a number of other toy industry bigs in the journey to sustainability.
