Bandai America is introducing R2-D2 to some Tamagotchi TLC through a new lineup of licensed Star Wars products.
Kids ages 8 and up will learn how to train, clean, and take care of Artoo just like any other digital pet in the toy. The R2-D2 Tamagotchi will be available in two, pocket-sized shells inspired by the droid’s design, accompanied by the iconic Tamagotchi animation displays. Some feature the astromech blasting off, rolling, turning his head, and more. Kids can train R2-D2 to master 19 different skills while keeping him charged and clean.
“Star Wars has proven to be a timeless franchise and one that fans are eager to continue exploring,” says Takayoshi Oyama, manager of the business management team at Bandai. “The R2-D2 Tamagotchi is an epic collaboration to be a part of and we can’t wait to see how fans of the franchise react to this out-of-this-world device!”

The R2-D2 Tamagotchi also features nine total mini-games, seven of which kids have to unlock. The two mini-games readily available are firefighting and holochess. Unlike previous Tamagotchis, if kids neglect Artoo for too long, Jawas will come to take him away.
The Star Wars R2-D2 Tamagotchi will be available for pre-order tonight at midnight ET when the link goes live on Amazon. The Tamagotchi is set to release on Nov. 11.
