The Pokémon Co. International will donate $10,000 to The Toy Foundation on Feb. 27, also known as Pokémon Day. The donation to the New York-based charity aims to provide philanthropic support to families and children in New York and other locations.

The Pokémon Co. and The Toy Foundation have a long-term strategic partnership, as the charity’s mission to deliver the benefits of play to children in need align with The Pokémon Co.’s goal to improve the lives of children and support social equity.

The Pokémon Co. and The Toy Foundation have also teamed up with the Empire State Building to illuminate the landmark on Pokémon Day. Between sunset and 2 a.m. ET, the Empire State Building will light up the skyline in blue and yellow, inspired by the Pokemon logo and in celebration of the upcoming U.S. premiere of Pokémon Horizons: The Series

“Pokémon Day is about celebrating the Pokémon brand alongside its passionate fan community, and we couldn’t think of a better way to honor that than by making a positive impact on the lives of children and families in need,” says Raquel Daniels, Chief Diversity and Social Responsibility Officer at The Pokémon Co.

“As we look forward to the Empire State Building lighting, we are continuing our support of The Toy Foundation’s important work by furthering opportunities for children and families in New York to experience the comfort and joy of play.”

Pokémon Day 2024 marks 28 years since the first Pokémon video game launched in Japan. On Feb. 27, Pokémon fans — also known as trainers — celebrate the brand and characters. This year, longtime and new trainers can celebrate with the U.S. Netflix premiere of Pokémon Horizons: The Series on March 7.

“As the first new mainline Pokémon animated series released in over 25 years, Pokémon Horizons: The Series will ring in a new era for Pokémon, with unique characters and stories that will expand and evolve the franchise,” says Taito Okiura, Vice President of Marketing at The Pokémon Co.

The Pokémon Co. invites trainers to look for a special appearance by Pokémon Horizons: The Series star Captain Pikachu on the Empire State Building’s social media during Pokémon Day. Those who visit the Empire State Building on Pokemon Day can also complete exclusive Timed Research tasks in Pokémon Go and earn special rewards.
