PlayStation 4 Available Now, With New Games and Ways to Play

PS4The PlayStation 4 system is available in the U.S. and Canada with a lineup of more than 20 first- and third-party games, including titles such as Knack and Killzone: Shadow Fall. The PS4 will have a library of more than 30 games by year’s end.

Game developers will be able to create huge, interactive worlds in smooth 1080p HD resolution, thanks to the PS4’s PC architecture, which includes an enhanced Graphics Processing Unit and 8GB of GDDR5 unified system memory. The system also takes social connectivity up a level: By pressing the “Share” button on the Dualshock 4 wireless controller, images and videos can be shared with other players through the PS4’s Dynamic Menu, or on social networking services such as Facebook and Twitter, and internet streaming services such as Ustream and Twitch.

The PS4 also integrates second screens, including the PlayStation Vita system, smartphones, and tablets. Using the PlayStation app, available for free on the iOS App Store and Google Play, these devices can be used to look at maps while playing an adventure game, purchase a PS4 game, and more. In addition, through Remote Play and Wi-Fi on home networks, gamers can now play most PS4 games on their PS4 Vita while the TV screen is being used for something else.

Cupcake Digital Develops Yo Gabba Gabba! App Series for Preschoolers

DHX Media has selected Cupcake Digital Inc. to develop a new series of kids’ apps featuring the characters from Yo Gabba Gabba!. Cupcake Digital will create deluxe activity apps designed for kids ages 5 and under.

The first Cupcake Digital Yo Gabba Gabba! app will launch this winter, as part of DHX Media’s comprehensive Yo Gabba Gabba! marketing and licensing strategy, which kicks off with the first live holiday tour and A Very Awesome Yo Gabba Gabba! Christmas DVD, featuring two original episodes, “A Very Awesome Christmas Special” and “Christmas.”

The app is inspired by the tune “There’s a Party in My Tummy.” The app will feature DJ Lance Rock and Brobee, Foofa, Muno, Plex, and Toodee. The activities within the app offer a variety of creative and imaginative ways for kids to learn about healthy foods and encourage kids to try them. The app will be available day-and-date on iTunes, AmazonGoogle Play, and the Barnes & Noble for Nook store.

Spin Master Launches Tech Deck for iOS and Android

TechDeckSpin Master Ltd. has released Tech Deck, a mobile video game based on its popular line of finely crafted fingerboards for iOS and Android. Tech Deck, developed by Free Range Games, is a free-to-play skateboarding title that combines the immersive thrill and excitement of pulling off perilous feats with the style and finesse of street skating.

Tech Deck features fast-paced, tap, hold, and slide mechanics that challenge players to chain together combos, grinds, aerials, and holds. The title also includes a roster of upgradable skaters to choose from as well as local legends. More than 100 officially licensed decks are represented, and Tech Deck owners can use their mobile devices to scan some of their real-life collections into the game and use them to skate.

Tech Deck is available to download for free in the App Store and on Google Play.

Turbo Racing League App Hits 20 Million Downloads

DreamWorks Animation’sDREAMWORKS ANIMATION TURBO RACING LEAGUE APP Turbo Racing League app, has reached the 20 million downloads mark. The Turbo Racing League app, from DreamWorks Animation and PikPok, features the thrill of racing in the palm of your hand, and is available on iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch from the iTunes Store; Android handsets and tablets from Google Play; and Windows Phone 8 from the Windows Phone Store.

In conjunction with the app’s release, Turbo Racing League unveiled the $1,000,000 Shell-Out Contest Presented By Verizon. This in-game contest awarded $1,000,000 in cash prizes over an eight-week period and culminated in a live grand finale event where champion Brian Dragotto of Mays Landing, N.J. walked away with nearly $300,000 in winnings.

Disney Interactive Releases Two New Infinity Mobile Apps

DisneyInfinityDisney Interactive has unveiled two new Disney Infinity mobile apps, Disney Infinity: Action! and Disney Infinity: Toy Box, which will provide connected extensions of the console  experience. The Disney Infinity: Toy Box app allows players to build and edit new worlds from the Disney Infinity Toy Box mode on their iPad. Players can also transfer any Toy Box creation between their iPad and console, and play with Mr. Incredible for free. Disney Infinity: Toy Box will be available for free for the iPad in the coming weeks.

Disney Infinity: Action! will be available for free on iTunes and in the Windows Store on August 15. It will be available for the Google Play Store soon. Features of the app include the ability to discover unique animations and use them in the Movie Maker so kids can create their own movies. Kids can from a high caliber cast of characters, including Mr. Incredible, Sulley, and Jack Sparrow, and more than 30 animations to use in videos sword fighting with Jack Sparrow and scaring a friend with Sulley and share the movies by posting to Facebook or YouTube.

Blitz Games Teams Up with DreamWorks for Shrek Alarm App

Designed for Shrek fans of all ages, DreamWorks’ Shrek Alarm features full alarm clock functionality, day and nighttime modes, and a bedtime feature, which allows you to decide when Shrek falls asleep. In addition, DreamWorks’ Shrek Alarm features access to your music library so you can wake up and go to sleep with your favorite songs, Facebook integration, a world clock, a flashlight, a timer, a stop watch and an interactive weather feature with your five-day forecast.

Playmobil Pirates from Gameloft Launch on iOS Devices

Gameloft’s Playmobil Pirates is now available from the App Store. This free-to-play title, which will be released subsequently on Android devices, takes place in a fun-filled environment based on the Playmobil line of pirate-themed toys.

Playmobil Pirates is currently available for the iPhone, iPad, and iPad Touch, and the Android version will hit the Google Play store soon.

Discovery Communications and Wendy’s Introduce Animal Planet Augmented Reality Games to Kids’ Meals

Discovery Communications and Wendy’s partnered to bring an augmented reality game to Wendy’s Kids’ Meals. On October 8, Wendy’s began distributing Animal Planet-themed Kids’ Meal premiums, featuring an augmented reality overlay, with the purchase of a Kids’ Meal.

The premiums feature one of five animals: a dog, cat, parakeet, chameleon, or fish. From a dog catching a disc to a cat purring, each toy will showcase a trait of the specific animal. The augmented reality experience features the same pets received in the Kids’ Meal and allows kids to play games from a desktop, as well as a mobile device through iTunes and Google Play. Fun and educational, each game of virtual play is differentiated among the five pets and incorporates each animal’s natural play patterns.

In addition to these Animal Planet premiums, participating Wendy’s will distribute coupons for a special offer on Animal Planet products, available at Toys “R” Us. Wendy’s will support the Animal Planet Kids’ Meal promotion with extensive in-restaurant marketing in more than 6,000 Wendy’s locations nationwide, which will include signage, branded Kids’ Meal bags, and window clings, as well as a presence on Wendys.com.

The deal was brokered on behalf of Animal Planet by its North American licensing agent, The Joester Loria Group.
