According to 71% of parents in a study from The LEGO Group, kids continue their digital play in the real world. More than 60,000 parents and their children from 36 countries were surveyed. More than one in three kids – 36% – say they enjoy digital and analog games equally. 75% of parents surveyed would feel more at ease with their children playing digital games if it involved real-world interaction as well.Â
To that end, The LEGO Group plans to expand its gaming sets, offering more next year so kids can expand their creativity in the real world after playing in the digital world with familiar characters. The LEGO Group will sell two Sonic the Hedgehog playsets in January, hot on the heels of this year’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3 film release in December, and a year-long celebration planned for the SEGA game next year.
SEGA isn’t the only gaming company: The LEGO Group plans to release sets featuring the world from Nintendo’s Super Mario and Animal Crossing, Fortnite, and Minecraft – all properties that exist as video games on their own and as LEGO digital games, too.Â
We’re committed to inspiring the builders of tomorrow through play, and we believe that play can take many shapes and forms. We were fascinated to hear that children often continue the stories from their digital play into physical play, which is why we’re pleased to announce these new additions to our gaming range in 2025."
When children move from the digital world to imaginative play offline they bring the characters from the digital world with them. Sets from The LEGO Group encourage world-building from the screen to the living room.
Sets are available in stores and online. For more information about LEGO’s gaming sets, visit lego.com/gaming.
