Asmodee is building on its previous success game piece by game piece.

International game company Asmodee Group acquired VR Group, a wholesale distributor of gaming products in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK, to aid in Asmodee’s expansion of its mass-market distribution of tabletop games, trading cards, and collectibles in these specific locations.

As a games publisher and distributor, Asomodee sold more than 39 million games in 2020 and its products can be found in over 50 countries. The company’s portfolio includes Catan, Ticket to Ride, Pandemic, Dead of Winter, Splendor, 7 Wonders, Just One, KeyForge, and Star Wars: X-Wing.

“VR Group will help us bring our games to more players than ever before,” says Asmodee Group CEO Stéphane Carville. Phil Jones, managing director of VR Distribution UK, says, “VR UK is a relatively new company, but we have quickly found our niche that will now complement nicely with the other Asmodee business units in the UK.”

The acquisition is a natural next step for Asmodee as VR Group has been managing several levels of game distribution in Australia and New Zealand since 2014. This includes exclusive and non-exclusive business-to-business distribution, localization, and business-to-consumer fulfillment.
