Catan, the popular board game where players build cities, is exploring new worlds on the Nintendo Switch.
Catan – Console Edition from Dovetail Games will allow players to play the board game on the couch, online, or on the move. The much-anticipated release of the Super Deluxe edition ($29.99) of the game includes the base game of Catan, five championship maps, and The Helpers, which is the first official expansion to Catan – Console Edition. Alongside this Super Deluxe edition, there are also the Deluxe ($24.99) and Standard ($19.99) editions. The Deluxe version includes the base game and championship maps, while the Standard version contains just the base game. Players can always purchase The Helpers/championship maps at a later date separately.
Players can immerse themselves in a vibrant animated board full of characters farming and mining resources, sheep roaming around, and the Robber waiting for the right moment to strike. Ships are in the surrounding harbors and settlements and cities appear as players continue to build and trade with one another. Success comes through earning Victory Points, which can be gained in various ways, including building the ‘Longest Road’ or amassing the ‘Largest Army.’
The Helpers expansion pack adds an additional layer of strategy to the game by introducing 12 characters known as Helpers. Each Helper brings its own unique skills to help players develop their growing communities into thriving cities.
Since Catan has always been about playing together, players can use the Card Companion on smartphones, allowing everyone to gather around one TV without the risk of seeing the resources that other players have. Plus, cross-play allows Nintendo Switch gamers to enjoy Catan – Console Edition with players on other consoles.
Ahead of the release on Nov. 9, there will be a one-week preorder promotion beginning on Nov. 2, allowing fans to get their hands on the Super Deluxe version with a 10% discount. Visit catanconsoleedition.com for more information.
