Cyber Groups Studios — a multi-national producer and distributor of animated programs such as Gigantosaurus, Zorro the Chronicles, and Droners — and Nippon Animation — a Tokyo animation studio known for producing anime series adapted from Western literature — have partnered to co-produce a feature-length film.
The film is based on the 1994 Japanese series Tico and Friends and will be titled Nanami and the Quest for Atlantis. Nanami is a 14-year-old girl living in the gold rush era around 1850. The film focuses around the relationship between humans and nature as Namami travels the ocean with her lifelong orca companion, Tico, and traveling partner, 17-year-old Seira, to search for hidden treasures. Along the way, the crew learns the answer to the pivotal question Namani’s father asks before their adventure: “What is more important than material fortune?”
This 90-minute film will be a hybrid of both 2D and 3D animation and will be best suited for viewers ages 7-14. A release date for the film has yet to be determined.
The collaboration between Cyber Groups Studios and Nippon Animation is expected to be long term, with plans for more properties and initiatives on the way.
