Onward

Two years ago, Dan Scanlon (Monsters University) took the stage at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California to show off a tiny glimpse at what was literally displayed on-screen as The Untitled Pixar Film that Takes You to A Suburban Fantasy World. At the time, there was no title, so that’s what they called it. Now that film has a title, and the first teaser trailer for Disney•Pixar’s Onward has arrived. Mattel will produce toys for Onward under the toymaker’s recently expanded agreement with Disney to produce new toys for Pixar Animation Studios properties beginning next year.

The story is set in a world with no humans — only elves, trolls and sprites — “anything that would be on the side of a van in the ’70s,” said Scanlon in 2017. “In the film, we’re going to tell the story of two teenage elf brothers whose father died when they were too young to remember him. But thanks to the little magic still left in the world, the boys embark on a quest that will allow them a chance to spend one last magical day with their father.”
