Ahead of this year’s Licensing Expo, Licensing International has released a topline preview of its 7th annual Global Licensing Industry Study. The full report, conducted by Brandar Consulting, will be available on June 24. Findings shown so far suggest that pandemic trends continue to influence the global licensing industry.
In the past two years, the industry has faced major changes in terms of which product categories show growth and which partnerships are formed within those categories. The topline report shows a shift toward stable and evergreen properties, driven by consumer comfort and sustainability.
“The study highlights the impressive growth the licensing industry has seen over the past two years,” says Maura Regan, president of Licensing International. “With the constant emergence of new innovations and trends, there are some incredible opportunities to grow even further, some of which will be previewed at next week’s Licensing Expo.”
The study contains two years’ worth of economic data, country-level data, product market data, royalty rate data, and company-level financial data. Noteworthy findings include: a major emergence of e-commerce driving licensed product sales across retail; significant growth in celebrity licensing; significant growth in Name, Image & Likeness (NIL) licensing among college athletes; and the resurgence of publishing properties in the licensing landscape.
The report also explores other categories like sustainability, royalties, counterfeiting, and more. Further reports will be published in the complete study on June 24.
