Mattel is getting serious about playing games.
The global toy company appointed Mike DeLaet to global head of digital gaming, effective July 25. DeLaet will bring more than two decades of experience in the gaming industry to Mattel, having most recently served as the senior vice president of strategic partnerships for Scopely, a global interactive entertainment and mobile games company.
“Mike is one of the foremost leaders in digital gaming, with deep expertise across all facets of the business,” says Richard Dickson, president and chief operating officer at Mattel. “As we ramp up our offerings through licensing partnerships, game tie-ins, and standalone releases, we are also looking to expand our own games across PC, console, mobile, and web-based platforms.”
In his new position, DeLaet will be responsible for growing Mattel’s digital gaming product offering across all major gaming platforms, including licensing, self-publishing, and web3, as well as overseeing Mattel163 — the brand’s joint venture partnership with NetEase.
In his most recent role at Scopely, DeLaet was responsible for business development, IP licensing, and platform distribution platforms. Prior to his last position, DeLaet founded Rogue Games. He also worked as senior vice president of worldwide business development and licensing at Kabam, as well as senior vice president of global publishing at Glu Mobile.
