The Barbie brand aims to inspire young kids to achieve their dreams through diverse and inclusive dolls. Mattel expands on this mission with the Barbie Fashionsistas line’s first-ever type 1 diabetes Barbie doll.

Developed with Breakthrough T1D, Mattel is launching a new doll that accurately reflects the medical equipment and lived experiences of individuals with Type 1 diabetes (T1D). The new Barbie wears a continuous glucose monitor on her arm and has an insulin pump that can attach to her waist. Along with equipment, this doll nods to diabetes awareness with a blue polka dot outfit and matching purse.

To celebrate the T1D Barbie doll, Mattel is also honoring two role models and T1D advocates. Peloton instructor Robin Arzón and supermodel Lila Moss will each receive their own one-of-a-kind dolls as part of Barbie’s larger mission to ensure representation.

“It’s an absolute honor to receive a Barbie doll as a part of the brand’s efforts to grow awareness and representation surrounding Type 1 diabetes, so that we can help show kids that all types of challenges give us all the more reason to push forward and achieve our dream,” says Arzón.

The Barbie Doll with Type 1 Diabetes is now available at Amazon and Walmart. To find more inclusive Barbie Fashionista dolls, including those with blindness, hearing aids, and Down syndrome, visit mattel.com.
