Squaregles is partnering with magnet art schools to celebrate the 2023 Art Basel fair held in Miami, Florida. Squaregles specializes in construction toys that combine several play patterns and magnetic connection. The frame pieces that kids can use to build different creations connect through magnets, and kits often include bridge clips, tubes, edge frames, and Oggs characters for extended creations and play.
On Dec. 5, Design and Architecture Senior High School (DASH) and New World School of the Arts (NWSA) will launch the December exhibitions and create sculptures using Squaregles products. Students will use Squaregles magnetic frames, panels, Oggs characters, and other materials to make one-of-a-kind, three-dimensional sculptures for an immersive installation. It will be part of the Making Miami exhibition in Miami’s Design District.
“It is an honor for DASH and NWSA to celebrate the pivotal role they have historically played in shaping the Miami art community,” says Hans Evers, Teacher and Art Department Chair of DASH. “Many talented artists started at these art schools, and it is a badge of pride that we can highlight each school and the roads they have paved to make the Miami art community thrive with such diversity and beauty.”
The installation will be part of the exhibition’s Sculpture Garden, which features artwork by DASH and NWSA alums Daniel Arsham and Naomi Fisher. The immersive experience, designed by the students, will include a coral reef, geodesic dome, and other sculptures made of Squaregles systems. There will also be a life-size Bead Maze, where visitors can create beads from Squaregles pieces and send them through the maze.
As a medium for Art Basel, STEAM-accredited Squaregles supports kids and students in their creative journeys. Patrons can also explore their creativity by examining the installation, drawing on the brand’s paperboard to graffiti their work, and creating their own Squaregles builds.
“At the heart of Squaregles, artistry and beauty emerge when children create elaborate worlds from their own imagination by piecing together each magnetic frame,” says Noah Ornstein, Co-founder of Squaregles. “I can’t think of a better partnership than with DASH and NWSA to honor and celebrate this creative process every child experiences while playing with Squaregles, and the opportunity to introduce this collaborative and inclusive artwork to new audiences.”
The public can view the Squaregles installations from Dec. 6-26. A private opening will occur on Dec. 5 from 6-11 p.m. ET.
