Skull’s back in session next year.

Mattel Television and Nickelodeon are celebrating the success of Monster High: The Movie with news that a sequel has been greenlit and will begin production in January. The film is set to stream on Paramount+ and will air on Nickelodeon sometime next year.

“We are ecstatic to tell the monstrous next chapter of this beloved franchise to our audience,” say Zack Olin and Shauna Phelan, co-heads of Nickelodeon & Awesomeness live-action. “Monster High’s message of embracing one’s unique self is as important as ever and we look forward to expanding the stories of these fan-favorite characters.”

Director Todd Holland (Monster High, Firehouse Dog, Malcolm in the Middle) returns to helm the sequel from a screenplay by Matt and Billy Eddy (Teen Beach, Invisible Sister, Zapped). Holland also serves as executive producer on the film alongside Fred Soulie, senior vice president and general manager of Mattel Television; Phil Breman, vice president of live-action development at Mattel; and Adam Bonnett (Descendants, Zombies, Masters of the Universe).

The original story was developed by Holland and the Eddys.

Monster High was created by toy designer Garrett Sander and launched by Mattel back in 2010. The line returned to the crypt for a few years following a soft reboot in 2018. Now, the Monster High franchise is back in a big way.

A new Monster High animated series is set to debut this Friday on Nickelodeon and stores are packed with a host of new merchandise, including toys, accessories, apparel, costumes, and more.
