New Picture Book Explains Food Allergies

Sue Ganz-Schmitt, global philanthropist and author of Even Superheroes Get Diabetes, has released a new book, The Princess and the Peanut: A Royally Allergic Fairytale. The book explains food allergies to children ages 4-9 through a fairytale.

In the book, a peanut butter-loving prince is searching for his royal match. When his alleged princess mysteriously appears, the queen tests her validity by using her time-honored test: placing a pea underneath a pile of mattresses and sending her to bed. The royal kitchen just happens to be out of peas so the queen uses a peanut instead, only to discover a real princess with real allergies.

A Q&A on food allergies for parents and caregivers is included in the book, along with a kid-friendly glossary. The Princess and the Peanut is available in hardcover and paperback at participating bookstores and online. The book is illustrated by Micah Chambers-Goldberg and published by Wild Indigo Publishing.
