Corus Entertainment’s Nelvana, a licensor, producer, and distributor of children’s animated content, has secured a partnership with ITV for the U.K. premiere of the show Piñata Smashlings. The show, produced by Nelvana and Toikido, is based on the Roblox game of the same name, and will premiere this fall in the U.K. and Canada.
Piñata Smashlings follows four characters into the Piñataverse as they team up as a troupe of heroes looking to rescue the rainbow pods from the Bashlings, who are set on destroying the world. The team faces silly hijinks and mayhem on their quest, learning about the importance of teamwork with each alliance they make. The brand’s game has a strong community following, with a new game experience in development for release next year. Toikido has also launched a successful toy line based on the game, with more than three million units sold, and has secured more than 30 licensing partnerships.
Julia Dodge, Director of Global Strategy & Distribution at Nelvana, shares her thoughts on the partnership: “Packed with humor, heartfelt friendships, and fast-paced quests, the Piñata Smashlings series celebrates video game culture in a way that’s fresh and deeply relatable to today’s kids. We’re excited to be partnering with ITV to add Piñata Smashlings to their current offering of standout children’s content, and for audiences across the U.K. to experience the series’ lovable oddball heroes, hilarious Bashling baddies, and dynamic gameplay energy.”
Darran Garnham, CEO of Toikido, shares more on the brand’s expansion opportunity: “The ITV launch gives us a fantastic platform to continue growing the Piñata Smashlings universe. We’ve built the brand to be playable, collectible, and watchable, and we’re excited to bring it to more families through this next phase.”
Darren Nartey, Senior Acquisitions Manager at ITV, adds: “We’re looking forward to welcoming Piñata Smashlings to ITVX’s ever-growing offering for kids. The show’s vibrant characters, creative storytelling, and playful spirit are a perfect fit.”
