Sonic the Hedgehog

Following a physical reworking of the title character that pushed back the intended release of Paramount Pictures’ Sonic the Hedgehog, it’s full-speed ahead for the iconic blue blur.

Sega of America will unleash a full consumer products program for the live-action/CGI film in time for the theatrical release on Feb. 14. Beginning next month, Jakks Pacific will offer playsets and plush figures based on the film in select territories while select Build-a-Bear Workshop locations will debut a range of specialty plush toys and accompanying accessories. Diamond Select will release a detailed premium statue to specialty retailers next spring, and Toy Factory and Sega Amusement will bring novelty products and prize redemption items to amusement parks and family attractions. Additionally, Penguin Publishing is supporting the release with a series of children’s books that are shipping to retail now.

“We’re thrilled to commemorate this momentous event in Sonic’s history by releasing a special line of merchandise tied to the Sonic the Hedgehog film,” says Ivo Gerscovich, the chief brand officer of Sonic the Hedgehog and senior vice president at Sega of America. “We partnered with some of the top licensees in the industry to ensure we deliver quality products and can’t wait for our enthusiastic fans to bring the magic of the film back home with them to enjoy for many years to come.”

Bioworld and Bentex will handle apparel for the U.S., while TVM Fashion Lab and Cooneen will release apparel and accessories for kids and adults across EMEA territories. Jay Franco is on board for Sonic the Hedgehog-themed bedding.
