Sesame Workshop has realigned its education functions into the new Research, Education, Data, and Impact (REDI) department.
The new department will consolidate Sesame Workshop’s larger community of educators. The organization is known for the educational material it produces, with a bevy of resources for children, families, and guardians. Sesame Workshop has tackled everything from learning science to financial literacy utilizing videos, worksheets, and more.
REDI will report to Dr. Alison Bryant, Chief Research, Data, and Impact Officer. Sesame Workshop’s research and data groups as well as the Joan Ganz Cooney Center were already working under Dr. Bryant, but the new department will see additional education-focused members added into the fold.
These changes signify a unified community of educators, researchers, and data scientists who can apply their expertise and skill sets across the organization while preserving powerful relationships with partners across the organization.
Included in those newly reporting to Dr. Bryant is Akimi Gibson, promoted to Senior Vice President, Multiplatform Global Education Planning & Integration. Gibson will helm additional efforts in the development of new educational content. Dr. Rosemarie Truglio, Senior Vice President, will keep on as the Curriculum and Content team lead, with the added responsibility of tackling products in the formal learning market.
Rocio Galarza, Vice President, will remain as lead for the U.S. Education Team for U.S. Social Impact and focus on integrating programmatic work. Finally, Carolina Casas, Vice President, will continue to lead the International Education team working with International Social Impact programs.
Sesame Workshop will continue using Sesame Street characters to develop educational content and resources kids can easily engage with. The nonprofit has been working for more than 50 years to serve the communities around it and — with the new REDI department — aims to have an even more education-focused strategy.
