The licensing program for the YouTube Originals animated series Super Sema is taking off.
Following last year’s news that Just Play will take the lead as global master toy licensee for the series about an African kid superhero, UTA has come on board as the North American licensing and publishing agency for the property.
UTA is working alongside Just Play as the company prepares to release a full range of toys, including dolls and plush this fall. UTA is looking to build partnerships for Super Sema across publishing, apparel, home, and accessories in the months ahead.
Super Sema is produced by Kuka, a company led by CEO Lucrezia Bisignani and Oscar-winning and New York Times bestselling children’s author Lupita Nyong’o as a shareholder and executive producer. Nyong’o also lends her voice talent to the series about a young African girl Sema and her twin brother MB who have STEAM superpowers.
“Like UTA, we were drawn to Super Sema, who embodies strength, curiosity, innovation, and confidence,” says Just Play Co-President Geoffrey Greenberg.
The second season of Super Sema will debut this spring on YouTube.
