A new series from Kevin Smith and WildBrain will reinvent The Green Hornet franchise for a new generation of kids.
“We’re thrilled to embark on a new animated Green Hornet series with Kevin, who has set up an incredibly rich world with a cast of amazing characters – especially Kato, who is no longer just a sidekick, but is now a strong female partner to the Green Hornet,” says Stephanie Betts, EVP Content and Current Series at WildBrain in a press release.
The cartoon draws inspiration from Saturday morning classics, such as Batman: The Animated Series, Heavy Metal, and Super Friends, Smith says. Largely targeting a family audience, it will bring multiple generations together in a contemporary “tale of two Hornets.”
Those familiar with the franchise will notice elements from the classic superhero story, such as the high-tech “Black Beauty” car, but the series will the story with new leads. The cartoon follows the son of the original Green Hornet and the daughter of Kato.
Smith will detail the announcement tonight at 8 p.m. PDT on his YouTube channel.
