There’s a new action figure line hitting the market that pairs ’90s inspiration with some modern flair.
9 to 5 Warriors was created by Brandon Braswell in 2013 around the idea that after workers in an office punch out, the stuff in the office comes punching in. Take elements of Toy Story, sprinkle them with Food Fighters and throw in a dash of Small Soldiers, and you have a general idea.
When Braswell first created the line, he built it around a story that was enough to garner some press and social appeal, but the 9 to 5 warriors never crossed the finish line. They had a comic and trading cards developed, but with no toys brought to market, the brand ended up mothballed for around seven years until The Nacelle Co.’s The Toys That Made Us started streaming on Netflix.
That series sparked new interest in fully developing the brand and Braswell enlisted toy designer Scott Hensey to sculpt the warring factions of Water Cooler Commandos and Break Room Bandits.
The first wave of action figures includes 10, unique characters that Braswell says are “geared towards the Toys ‘R’ Us Kids that never grew up.” BigBadToyStore is the first retail partner on board for the launch. MSRPs range from $9.99 for the comic book to $34.99 for the trading cards, which are printed in the U.S. Individual action figures are priced at $24.99 and $29.99 with delivery expected in the third quarter of 2023.
