When The Play Date, the new media event presented by The Toy Association and Adventure Media & Events (publisher of The Toy Book and The Toy Insider) opens its doors this Wednesday in New York City, both Paramount and Playmates Toys will be in the house. You can read between the lines here, but knowing that there is a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) movie on the horizon, the industry can expect some mutant-fueled sales to emerge in the back half of the year.
Today, Paramount unleashed the first teaser trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. The new film leans into the teenage element of the lore and picks up as the Turtle brothers set out to win the hearts of New Yorkers and be accepted as normal teens through their heroic acts. Their new friend April O’Neil helps them take on a mysterious crime syndicate, but they soon get in over their heads when an army of mutants is unleashed upon them.
Mutant Mayhem is based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles characters created by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman. The film is co-directed by Jeff Rowe and Kyler Spears and produced by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and James Weaver. Ramsay McBean and Josh Fagen serve as executive producers.
The voice cast includes Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown, Jr., Hannibal Buress, Rose Byrne, Nicolas Cantu, John Cena, Jackie Chan, Ice Cube, Natasia Demetriou, Ayo Edebiri, Giancarlo Esposito, Post Malone, Brady Noon, Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, and Maya Rudolph.
