Mattel is headed to the colorful world of Troll Kingdom.
The toymaker inked a multi-year global licensing deal with Universal Brand Development for DreamWorks Animation’s Trolls. Under the new deal, Mattel will find inspiration in the whimsical, musical franchise to create an expansive new collection of Trolls toys and games, including plush, dolls, vehicles, and more.
Mattel’s first wave of Trolls products will arrive at retail in fall 2023 ahead of the November release of Trolls 3 (working title), an all-new feature film that follows Trolls World Tour (2020) and Trolls (2016).
“DreamWorks Animation’s Trolls has captivated the hearts of families all over the world with its colorful characters and optimistic message,” says Nick Karamanos, senior vice president, entertainment partnerships, Mattel. “We look forward to building upon our strong relationship with Universal and DreamWorks to make great toys that will inspire children to find their happy place with a spectacular Trolls line.”
The addition of Trolls to the Mattel portfolio bolsters a robust collection of Universal intellectual property (IP) for which the company produces toys and games.
Mattel already maintains licensing agreements for Universal’s Fast & Furious franchise, Illumination’s Minions, DreamWorks Animation’s Spirit Riding Free, and Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment’s Jurassic World.
