There’s a new “Chief Explorer Monster” at Wisconsin-based PlayMonster.
The company appointed Richard Gill to the position of Vice President International, bolstering the company’s strength in markets outside of the U.S., Canada, and the UK. Gill, a long-time toy industry exec, brings more than 30 years of experience to his new role. As the co-owner and manager of McGill Associates, Gill spent nearly two decades working to place products in more than 50 global markets, helping small- to medium-sized toy industry clients with securing international partners, licensees, and distributors. PlayMonster was one of those clients, and it was Gill who helped its popular game, 5 Second Rule, to expand outside of the U.S., translated into 28 languages, with sales in 44 countries.
“I’ve enjoyed working with PlayMonster over the last several years and am thrilled to be part of the team,” says Gill. “It feels like the right time to join the company to focus on its international expansion goals. PlayMonster is a perfect fit for me with its culture of playfulness and determination, and commitment to innovation. It’s an honor to join the respected management team here and I look forward to working more closely with them to create a stronger global presence.”
An Emmy-nominee for the syndicated series based on Pictionary — a brand he co-owned and developed until its sale in 2001 — Gill also led the international success of Trivial Pursuit.
“Having known and respected Richard for over 20 years now, I am very excited to have him as part of the PlayMonster team,” says Bob Wann, CEO and Chief PlayMonster. “His vast experience and track record of success with our brands and others will be key in the company’s rapid growth and successful international expansion.”
PlayMonster’s Interplay, acquired last year, will continue to be run as a separate subsidiary, overseen by UK Managing Director Adrian Whyles.
