Geoffrey the Giraffe is setting up shop in a new location.
A miniature Toys “R” Us store will open at the Dallas Forth Worth International Airport (DFW) later this year.
The new store will open near Gate A28 in Terminal A in time for the holiday rush. The store will be operated by leading travel retailer Duty Free Americas under a licensing agreement similar to the Toys “R” Us flagship store at American Dream in New Jersey and the Toys “R” Us at Macy’s locations.
“[This store is] an exciting new concept that we believe could roll out in airports around the world,” says Yehuda Shmidman, Chairman and CEO of WHP Global and Toys “R” Us.
Travelers visiting the store will be welcomed by a life-size custom Geoffrey the Giraffe 3D sculpture before discovering a curated selection of toys and games. The store will also offer hands-on demos.
“Every trip is better with a trip to Toys ‘R’ Us on the way,” wrote DFW representatives in a Facebook post this week.
Similarly, FAO Schwarz has retail outposts at a handful of airports in the U.S. and Mattel once operated its own store at LAX.
Toys “R” Us is owned by WHP Global and currently maintains a global footprint of more than 1,300 retail locations spread across more than 30 countries. The company will relaunch Babies “R” Us in the U.S. later this year with a flagship destination at American Dream and is plotting a major expansion of the Toys “R” Us brand in Mexico.
