James Cameron’s Avatar is back in theaters this weekend and it’s already inspiring new products.
At The Toy Association’s 2023 Preview & 2022 Holiday Market in Dallas this week, Zing was showing retail buyers a new innovation in the R/C space inspired by the 2009 film.
Zing’s Avatar R/C Classic Banshee was being shown alongside a Deluxe model that the company plans to bring to retail this fall, starting with a direct-to-consumer (D2C) offering beginning Oct. 1.
The Classic Banshee is a smart bionic R/C that features flapping wings and a one-handed remote control designed for an easy flying experience for kids ages 8 and up. It comes with a built-in battery and USB charger and can perform aerial tricks or simply soar through the sky. The lightweight toy is designed for outdoor use and can be controlled from up to 200 feet away. Zing previously took flight in the R/C space with its Go Go Bird line.
Avatar became a global sensation 13 years ago and is primed to connect with a new generation of audiences this fall. Following the theatrical re-release this week, the first of several planned sequels, Avatar: The Way of Water, is set to hit theaters on December 16 via Disney’s 20th Century Studios.
Should the franchise prove to be as hot this fall as it was the first time around, it should move the needle in toys and licensing again. Earlier this week, a line of Avatar-inspired costumes from Disguise were exclusively revealed at our sister publication, The Pop Insider, and a line of LEGO sets is out now.
