This fall, online retailer ThinkGeek will partner with GameStop to open a new concept retail store focused entirely on collectibles. The first store will open in the Florida Mall in Orlando on September 25.
On Sunday, Disney Interactive launched Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition, bringing Disney together with Star Wars, Disney•Pixar, and Marvel for a new gaming experience. Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition features an updated and improved Toy Box mode where families can mix and match some of their favorite Star Wars, Disney, Disney•Pixar, and Marvel characters and play with them together.
This past week, Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media (DCPI), along with Hasbro Inc., announced the pre-sale of Playmation Marvel’s Avengers at select Canadian retailers. A new system of toys and wearables, Playmation Marvel’s Avengers utilizes smart technology to inspire kids to run around and use their imaginations, as they become the heroes or heroines of stories from Marvel’s Avengers.
In recent days, the toy industry has been abuzz with the news that Target will remove gender labels from its in-store marketing. That means for the retailer’s toy department, there will no longer be signage referring to certain toys as being girls’ and others as boys’, nor shelves swathed in pink or blue paper, which traditionally have had gender-specific connotations (pink for girls, blue for boys).
At D23 Expo 2015 next month, Disney Interactive will showcase more Star Wars characters and play sets for Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition. Guests will have the chance to play Star Wars Twilight of the Republic, Star Wars Rise Against the Empire, and Disney•Pixar’s Inside Out, as well as the fully enhanced Toy Box mode.
MakieLab, which lets kids use games and apps to build customizable 3-D-printed toys, was among this year’s class of the Disney Accelerator program powered by Techstars. The program features 10 startup companies that will participate in a three-month mentorship and investment program beginning today and concluding with a Demo Day on October 6.
Playmation Marvel’s Avengers, from Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media (DCPI) and Hasbro Inc., is now available for pre-sale from select retailers. The Playmation Marvel’s Avengers Starter Pack, Smart Figures, and Prowler Bot are available to pre-order online at amazon.com, bestbuy.com, gamestop.com, target.com, toysrus.com, and walmart.com, as well as disneystore.com and at select Disney Store locations in the U.S. and Canada.
Hasbro’s Special Edition Comic-Con International Toys Include Jem, My Little Pony, Transformers, and More
Hasbro Inc. is attending Comic-Con International in San Diego with special edition action figures and toys drawn from its popular brands and licenses. Along with items tied to movies, animated series, comics, and video games—such as My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the classic Transformers cartoon—the toymaker is showing off licensed properties for Star Wars and Marvel.
The Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition Starter Pack from Disney Interactive, featuring the Star Wars Twilight of the Republic Play Set, will be available in North America on August 30. Fans who pre-order at participating retail stores will receive an early copy of the multiplayer Toy Box Expansion Game, Toy Box Takeover, which allows players to use all of their Disney Infinity characters across Star Wars, Marvel, Disney, and Disney•Pixar.
